TOURISM UP & UP & UP - CAPE VERDE SEES 9,6% INCREASE OF HOTEL UNITS
According to the Cape Verdean National Statistics Institute
(INE), the number of hotel units in Cape Verde have risen by an
incredible 9.6 percent in 2011. The increases in hotel units cover
hotels, inns and also tourist villages.
The rise itself saw a total of
195 Cape Verde hotel units as opposed to 178 in 2010.
Cape Verde’s hotel units also offered a significant increase of room,
beds and places. The figures researched by the INE showed that these
hotel units offered accommodation of 7,900 rooms, 14,000 beds and 17,000
places which grew by 34.1 percent, 23.5 percent and 22.8 percent
respectively from the 2010 statistics.
The islands of Sal and Boa Vista contain the most hotel units within
the region. In fact, the island of Sal contains 44.7 percent of the
overall hotel units compared to Boa Vista which contains 31.1 percent.
São Vicente has the largest increase of hotel units which saw an
increase of five units, swiftly following Santo Antão and Maio with
three and four respectively.
Employment has definitely increased due to the 9.6 percent increase
of hotel units in Cape Verde. Within the INE report, employment within
the hotel units increased by an astonishing 27.6 percent since 2010.
This increase saw 5,100 people becoming employed all due to the rise of
tourism in Cape Verde.

Inside the property
The property sleeps six people and comprises two bedrooms, 1 bathroom, a kitchen dining area, a large open plan living room and an outside terrace. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything needed for self-catering including: solid wood dining table with six chairs, refrigerator, and cooker with hob. For outside dining on the terrace there is an additional table with four chairs. In the living room there is a double sofa bed, two sofas, a TV and a stereo with CD and mp3 that takes USB & SD cards with a music collection on a USB dongle. There is also an in house phone provided with all the contact numbers needed for your stay. For gadgets there is a mix of UK & EU sockets with power protection. If you need to use your laptop there is WIFI internet close by. The property has fan cooling in all rooms to circulate the ocean breeze. The bathroom comes with towels and hairdryer etc. There is a large terrace and private garden that has a mix of tropical plants and two large hammocks.
Outside the property
The development comprises twenty detached villas, fifteen semidetached bungalows and seven apartments. The Beaches

On the other side of the small beach is the town of Vila Do Maio. A short walk down through the town brings you out on the main street overlooking the long white sandy main beach.
Climate & Weather
The climate is tropical and dry. The average daytime temperature remains around 25°C and whilst there are highs and lows due to the influence from the Ocean, the changes do not exceed 10°C. The sea temperature is between 21°C in February and March up to 25°C in September and October. Rainfall is, unfortunately for the farmers, very rare. The sea temperature is several degrees warmer than the Canaries.

Cape Verde's flagship airline Transportes Aéreos de Cabo
Verde (TACV) was pleased to announce the first of two Boeing 737-800s
purchased from the International Lease Finance Corporation (ILFC) in
order to update its fleet in North Carolina, USA.
Although
a definite date was not provided by Carlos Carvalho, Cape Verdean
newspaper A Semana predicted that the new Boeing would arrive at Nelson
Mandela airport in Praia in July.
Allowing the TACV to
open up new channels to the sub-African Region, the aircraft itself has
the capacity to carry just over 150 passengers. This is great news as
Cape Verde longs to explore new routes as well as to boost links to
Boston in the United States Of America.
The second
Boeing, which is slightly larger with a capacity of 162 passengers, is
set to arrive in September. It has been predicted to operate along the
Cape Verde-Portugal as well as allowing the TACV to return the Air
Atlantic aircraft.
The lease price reported from the
Cape Verde's official bulletin are that TACV will make monthly payments
of $310,000 (US Dollars) to a total of $2.17 million (US Dollars).
